A short girly report from the EWGC 2012 in Brno

Go is a sport for girls!

Of course, the majority of Go players are men, but women can also enjoy playing Go and get to a quite high level! To prove it, 15 strong females participated in the European Women Go Championship 2012 (7th-9th September, Brno).

The competition was important, as the top three players qualified for the 2nd SportAccord World Mind Sport Games in Beijing. After 5 rounds, it was clear who will get this honour:

1st: Vanessa Wong (UK, 5d)
2nd: Rita Pocsai (Hungary, 5d)
3rd: Natalia Kovaleva (Russia, 4d)

The tournament was played in Santon hotel and the organizers reserved the room with the nicest view on the lake for the girls. Moreover, each woman received a very beautiful “Go” cushion and a handmade jewellery set!

The girls could also socialize with other players (and vice versa), as the European Cup Brno tournament was organized parallel to the EWGC. The main tournament had 107 participants and it was won by “the European Champion” Jan Simara. You can see his pride and happiness on some pictures here.

To sum up, both tournaments were neat and really enjoyable.
